It's a shame that the game only really becomes engaging at the end.The world takes place in an area simply known as "The Cage" (檻)-a series of towers and dungeons, sometime in the future. The DLC bosses are similarly challenging and a lot of fun. At times it's almost souls-like in how nonstop certain combos could be, especially in his vulnerable phase. The attacks are just relentless and it can feel almost impossible to get a hit in. The XIII-2 set of final bosses are all really good and somehow I feel being a bit underlevelled really makes you really have to exploit the battle system. The wound damage made the fight get so much more difficult as it went on, to the point where for the big super one shot move I started having to not only use defensive paradigms, but try to burn down adds and use feral links to keep mitigation buffs up. Got a feel for how much time the boss would be vulnerable for, stuff like that. After scraping by the first two phases I couldn't bring myself to repeat that so I just buckled down and had multiple hours of failed attempts and eventually beat it in a war of attrition in like 30 minutes or so.īy the final run though I had basically memorized all the attack patterns, exactly how long I could afford to remain in, say, a buffing paradigm before switching to a staggering one. Don't know how but got to it at very low hp. Literally had this experience very recently on replaying the game. No regrets, got the good ending on this side of the twins, and then played the other twin's path right after (much easier to lose, got wiped in maybe like 4 turns.) So technically that boss fight took an hour. Not to be bested by the game, I had the idea to set up a macro (to rest every turn and take the hits) and left for dinner. So to my dismay his health was being chipped at 2% per turn. One of the siblings is canonically more competent at combat, and can learn a super overpowered passive buff to defense. Technically spoilers below.Īnyways, it was cool, you can play as either of the twins for 2 very different stories, and their paths only converge a few times, until the very end - when they are fated to duel each other to the death! Faithful to the novel, however, the way to trigger the good ending is to (after some complicated detective work to realize they are twins, and setup drugs that induce temporary death-like state) intentionally lose the duel. There was a Wuxia RPG game, an adaptation of a popular novel, 绝代双骄 (Netflix somehow translated the TV show to "Handsome Siblings" who the hell ok-ed this?!!! Sigh).
